Please post all feedback about the WindowBlinds 6 beta on this thread.

Note that the beta is for 32 bit XP and Vista systems only.  Please do not post about it not working on 64 bit XP/Vista.  Please continue to use WB 5.51 on those platforms.

This beta is for Object Desktop customers ONLY.  Standalone WindowBlinds 5 owners will not be able to activate this build.

Please note that you must have Stardock Central 2.46 Build 154 or later to install the WindowBlinds 6 betas. If you try and use older versions, it'll eventually timeout and give you an error about an invalid URL.

If you have problems with it running at all, please uninstall WB6, reboot and then try reinstalling WB6 again.

It is just too cool. I did loose all my skins that I had on WB 5. But I can always download them again. I want to say that the Molten Skin is to cool. And I love the way you can change the colors and transparency.. Everyting went very smooth for me.
Had NO problems. Uninstalled 5 and reinstalled 6. Everything is working fine. I am using OS Vista Premium.

Vista install went as expected and all works very well - all controls function properly!

Great work Stardock team!
Ready for SKS 6 ... go go go !

Everything works for me under Vista Ultimate. I'm dual-booting with XP and Vista and installed skins from my XP program files.

I have a question, will the older skins like from 2003 or 2004 still work with WB6???
on Aug 02, 2007
Ok...update to my black toolbar problem....not sure what fixed it...maybe changing skins and then changing back...but all is well again! And the Molten skin is awesome!

Oh....and I thought I lost some skins...but clicking rebuild the list brought them back...for whatever reason they weren't showing in the list before that.

Ok I just noticed something else...if i open notepad and place the titlebar directly over the titlebar for windows explorer...no blur (or over any other titlebar), but....when winamp is behind explorer and notepad on top of explorer....winamp gets blurred....but the section of explorer titlebar not overlapping winamp isn't blurred. @_@

Ok...nevermind all that nonsense above. It seems the titlebars are blurred when placed over the winamp playlist, just not the main window (Winamp 5 with modern skin). Titlebar on top of titlebar still seems to have no blurring...

My install on Vista Ultimate went flawlessly....did the usual reboot afterwards and everything works as it should....and no skins were deleted, rebuilding the skin list brought back those skins which did not at first appear.

As always, a sterling effort, magnificent, Stardock.

So far, WB6 looks pretty much like WB5 on my XPP SP2 rig (has constant alpha only). Unfortunately, the menu painting problem that I've posted about with 5.51.025 (all versions after 5.49, actually) persists with this version. That's the only real knock I have for now.

The blur effect looks great on Diamond, even without PPA here, except for the Titlebar-over-Titlebar problem others have mentioned. Can't say as I see any change in performance. I love the new UI options, particularly the control over system button animation - thanks, SD, for listening to our requests.

One observation: the Taskbar Sizing Bar for a vertical taskbar is now completely transparent; can still grab it & resize the bar, but just shows the wallpaper through the "crack" as it were. Overall looks damn good for the first beta.

And "Unload WindowBlinds" is back in the SysTray Icon Context Menu -

Ok....was just playing around in the config...some cool stuff.

1. Filtering the skins by category (is this new or I just now noticed it?). That's cool, what would be even *cooler* is if we could make our own categories and define skins that way...like a tagging system. IE: "blue", "vista", "techie", "minimal", etc.

2. Change skin fonts: good to see this back in the wbconfig. Awesome that the fonts are shown as to what they really look like in the font list, and way cool we can actually make the fonts SMALLER now, before it was only bigger. The advanced controls for font editing are just....awesome. Editing fonts in SKS has always been a bit of a pain, this is really nice.

3. Advanced user settings: that looks like some new cool stuff....ahh gotta love new updates.

All I can think of for now.

Can you turn off blur on Vista.ExplorerTop?
on Aug 02, 2007
Doh......... no blur support in Windows Vista Home Basic. I am hoping the clever masterminds behind WB 6 can find a workaround to this.

Working perfectly on XP here.
on Aug 02, 2007

No blur on overlapping titlebars on Windows XP is perfectly normal and there are good technical reasons as to why this is the case.

Regarding missing skins, chances are those skins were included with WB5 and so when you uninstalled WB 5 it removed the included skins.  WB6 does not include those skins so they are missing.

When I try and change the sidebar skin it will not change.

Also when I create my own sidebar skin and try to edit it, I get the following error message:

This application has filed to start because iconv.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

I tried reinstalling WB6 and it doesnt seem to have helped.

Am on Vista business, AMD 3500, Geforce 7600.
